Anthem for Susan--o/topic

Postby Detailed Infinity » 04 Jan 2012, 13:49

An ambient indie rock piece now that I've posted a Shad style track (I'll keep them to a minimum). It was written for a collegue who now wheels me to the park to feed the ducks.

Straightforward looping guitar lead with pannned 2nd guitar mixed above synth pads and it's in the key of C Major at 120bpm. The b/t or underscore is available if needed.

Turn the volume up and let it rip.

Now you see me---- The night of my retirement last Feb. Susan's in the grey and I'm the one in the tie.

Hi Brian, that was 'unreal' fo lack of a better word! If you close your eyes you can be taken to better, calmer places!!
The playing and production were very professional and well done!
Brilliant!!

Yeh, I know what you mean Charles. Anthemic is the word you're looking for.

Sue asked me to write something for her when I left; 'something strong Bri--something to remember you by' so I wrote her this one and another half dozen other tracks and she had a smile on her face. Unfortunatley they were non Shad tracks but I'll slip the odd one in now and then. Susan had her desk across from mine and we just liked music.

Are you writing Charles if so point me at it?

Do you remember Kardri Nestra Charles? She's done the dirty on us and married http://www.bdcol.ee/?id=48 Now Kardri Parkel.

......a man after my own heart. Isn't it great when you can give someone so totally unique and one-off... It is a gift beyond price and I am sure the lady appreciates this tribute...

Great use of ping pong delay very a la Edge with those bell like tones - and wonderful the way you have resisted bringing in a kit as a build (as I cannot resist doing so!!! ) - lovely string arrangement too.

Really good job Brian,

Tony.

Yeh Tony, I wondered if anyone who'd listened would comment on the lack of a percussion track. I did add one and all the clarity of the different aspects of the track were swamped. As the track progresses you can spot places where the percussion would have been intoroduced but no--left the drums out.

If you think about it, it's really a simple piece to do---loop the guitar on one track add the other guitars in there having looped them with differing tones and efx in their respective tracks, place above a bed of layered ambient synth lines and it has a rhythm of its own.

There's nothing in this piece that most people here with PC multitracks couldn't replicate in some way. The hard bit is wondering where to start.

Thanks for your comments. If it's made someone think then it wasn't a wasted post.

I am guessing that this has a similar story to 'Stileto' - so can I formally retract these words please?

Thx

Hi all
Got to agree with Ecca. Needs a melody. It's a super piece, well recorded and produced. It could make a super backing. Have you given thought, Brian, to putting a lead guitar on it? There must be someone on the site who can oblige.
Regards Geoff.

OK. It's late at the moment and I'm in hospital tomorrow so my nerves aren't what they should be. I'll work on three or four versions--no pads then no strings then no guitar leads and you all can play around with it to your hearts content.

I'd prefer a choral sting heading up to the 2 min mark 'cause that's the high of the piece how on earth do I pre-work that 2min mark with a melody line? My idea was an indie rock anthem which it is but I'll take out the bits I've mentioned and post 3 different mixes for remixing.

I'll make a seperate post heading so you know where to look.

Thanks for your constructive suggestions, I welcome such observations 'cause you do get a block particulalry when you start with a blank screen with nothing on there at all.

Bri

ps Working on remixing River of Tears which I did on here back in 2002 would you believe. It's got elements of Gladiator for those who can remember that piece from way back.
