Hi Keith, You'll have to excuse me I can help you but time I'm afraid is a commodity I'm fast running out of. I could say it's relelativley easy but I have lots of years under my belt.

I notice you are using Audacity which is a good free application however when adding an effect like echo you have to wait until the effect is applied ie not letting you hear in real time how a differing tweak is affecting the wave file.

Wavosaur lets you alter efx settings on the fly thus allowing you to apply when and if etc. Looking at the home page at the left hand side there's loads of VST effects plugin's for you to load and use on your file. I have the GlaceVerb plugin myself and it's a really good reverb.

I'm sorry I've no more time to give to you Keith, perhaps someone else can pick it up.

Many thanks Bri, it seems a bit complicated to my poor computing cells, but I'll have a look for any tutorials on youtube as well

Hmm that's strange Eric, I've only noticed no replies to Keith's question--the main reason I answered yesterday was because Keith was asking for help and seemingly not getting any which is unusual on this site. The only answer to your question is one you'll have sussed out--only an administrator can delete files (other than the author) and if this has happened it must be in error.

Repost your message Eric, every word of help is needed by the person asking. Due to my recent wobble a few months ago I'm loath to pop my head up too much but you have a valid point, it looks bad when no-one seems to be helping a fellow member.

On a serious side and in answer to Brian's comment as well as Keith's request for help, the fact is that it's almost impossible to give help on something like using a very technical and complicated peace of software.

I had the same problem when I bought LOGIC PRO 8 for my Mac in 2007. I had been recommended it by Warren Bennett and heard how he had vastly improved some really poor recordings, so when he came up to our house I asked him if he could give me some pointers to get me started - I had already scratched the surface but was getting stuck on what seemed simple techniques. Anyway the fact was that Warren couldn't help as there wasn't time to explain all I needed to know and I was a bit peed off - but after getting my ass in gear and getting down to the Apple Store for some 'One to One' training, it became perfectly clear why he couldn't help me. There is so much to understand to begin with and it took me a full session with an expert to get actually started with recording. I went home and kept recording and adding tracks - live as well as midi, mixing and trying effects, then I would get stuck on what seemed a simple task and then have to save my questions for the next session at the 'On to One' lesson. That's the way I learned, by making mistakes and asking during my training, but bear in mind that I have had over thirty years experience in owning my own recording studio from the old tape system until today's digital method, so I understand the recording part of it OK - what I am now doing is learning about how to use the latest technology to reproduce the music, which in itself is a steep learning curve as the methods of putting the sound down have changed e.g. one cannot saturate the tape by overloading the signal and pushing the boundaries any longer (as did Malcolm Addey on MOVE IT which gave the record it's great dynamic) because if you go 'over' and into the red with digital equipment, you are in real distortion that cannot be compensated and it doesn't sound 'warm' as it would have done on the old tape based equipment. You HAVE to stay below the RED.

As you can see this could go on for hours, which is why it's impossible to explain everything that needs to be known, I am afraid that it's a bit like learning to play guitar, there is NO fastrack, it's a labour of love and dedication - you have to WANT it ! ;)

Good point Robbo about going into the red with digital recording .... old tape analogue produced a nice warmer sound for a bit of extra gain but apparently the digital systems are no good at it . I found that out on a forum a few months back and it made sense. Apparently it's something to do with the way the digital 1010101010 numbers reach max such as 11111111 and do not reflect the past 100% gain numbers very well ! So do not go into the RED ! on digital modern stuff. This the reason why so many studios and artists still prefer the tape recording method. Somepeople say record at no more than -6Db others even less . Recording is a subject I have stuggled with and I live and learn... best way is to get stuck in and practice on some recordings, but getting the levels right in the first place is a good start. :D
