That'll be the day. Video

Postby Phil McGarrick » 26 Jun 2012, 17:04

This is my cover of “That’ll be the day” from “Hank plays Holly” album.

The backing track is from UB Hank 4 available at Leo’s Den here :-
http://www.leosden.co.uk/backingtrax.htm

I found Steve Gibb’s Tabs very useful for the solo – available here :-
http://www.bbigmusic.com/bbigmusic/Guitar_Tabs.html

For this one I used the Alesis Quaraverb Q2 with patch 0-45 (very short echo)

I added a lot of compression/sustain from my Boss pedal CS2
And a small amount of Overdrive from my boss pedal SD1
You can see the settings in the early part of the video.

Hope you like my version all comments welcome.

Another superb track Phil, with just the right amount of pedal effects to create that Buddy tone.

Blimey, thats good!
One I've never attempted due to the whole minute and half of Hankisms between 1.12 and 2.40 odd. You do it so well - I can't think how you remember it all.
Great sound and thanks for the sneak peek at the settings.
I like the turned pages of Tab during the Harmonica solo - saved you having to smile through it - lol !
Great Job.
NOT on my "To Do" List :D
cheers

Another terrific soundfile/video Phil - the edge that the SD1 pedal gives is just right.

Thanks Ian & Roger for your replies - great to hear from you both.

Ian - I think it was a case of what shall I do next ? - I had Hank's original, UB Hank's BT and Steve's Tab,
and after doing several slow ones in a row thought it was time I did a bit of an up-tempo one.
(loads more time to practice now I'm retired :D )
You're right about the page turning during the Harmonica solo - nothing worse than staring at a camera with nothing going on

Roger - The Compressor/sustainer CS2 does a great job but it needed just that extra edge with the SD1
as you pointed out.

All the best... Phil
