SHAZAM Edited and Slowed down

Postby blueshadows2008 » 14 Aug 2012, 21:53

Hi All, Here's my try at SHAZAM

Edited version, with new last 'middle eight' and levels on lead fills changed.

Same edited version, slowed down by 5%, 6 seconds longer I know the quality has suffered a bit but this for me is just an exercise

All comments welcome,

Charles!

The so-called "More Hits" version is in fact the 1963 B-side version (released as the flip of... wait for it... Geronimo, late 1963).

Thank you Jim. Coming from darkest Africa in those days we were lucky to get one 'LP' a year, and if we were really lucky, a second! I don't think the majority of tiny record stores were too pushed to get every single that came out. The More Hits album was and still is one of my favourites, although I was a bit disappointed with Shazam when I first heard it, after playing the Live EP to bits in the years preceding More Hits. I did however get used to it and realise the sheer genius of The Shadows with everything they put their talent to!
However, thank you for your information.

Well that sure rocks along Charles. A bit of Duane and of yourself in there too!

I know what you mean about the two Shazam versions, Charles. I always found the earlier LP version of Foot Tapper more energetic but you can't fault the A side version as a classy bit of production. At least until the remixing brigade got to it!

All the best - Iain

Hello Charles
Its the faster one for me. and that is the Vote of the Perton Jury.
Excellent stuff. The guitar sounds very "forward" and yet it isnt in your face. Great BT and I love the tempo - I havent heard it played that way by The Shads but I dont have many of their original early tracks.
cheers

Thank You Ian. I'm glad you like the fast version too!! It was in fact one of the very first Shadows tunes I'd ever heard. I should also have mentioned that Shazam, the live Johannesburg version is the opening track, with compare introduction, on the first ever Shadows LP 'The Shadows Rockin' Guitars' and was exclusive to the South African market. I know it was a compilation album but a very important collection for Shadows fans. My first copy was played to pieces, my next was packed away safely and still is!
I was blessed beyond belief when as a youngster my dad took me to see The Shadows at the Colosseum in Johannesburg and a year later in the Alhambra in Cape Town, this time with Licorice on bass. Two concerts that are etched permanently on my brain!

Thanks Ian and everyone else for your great comments and to those who just listened too, much appreciated!

Cheers, CC (A South African)
