Stardust Video

Postby Phil McGarrick » 10 Nov 2012, 15:58

Stardust is probably the oldest song I have ever recorded.
It was composed in 1927 by Hoagy Carmichael It has been recorded in instrumental and vocal form ever since by lots of people.

My version is based on The Shadows Jigsaw album from July 1967.

I used my Alan Brason strat with Hank Marvin Kinman pickups FV-HMS in the neck position.
Alesis Quadraverb Q2 programmed with Charlie Hall’s echoes from the past patch 0-58
By-passed the amp and the O/P from the Q2 into Presonus Audiobox USB then into Cubase on the computer

The Backing Track came from UB Hank with some Cubase stretching of the intro and outro as their otherwise great BT is much too “rushed” and doesn’t match the Shadows version…

Hope you like Stardust.

Cheers Phil

Phil,
That was great in every respect. One of my fav slower tempo Shads tracks.
Might you be prepared to share the 'doctored' BT with those of us who don't have
the expertise to achieve what you have done?
Cheers,
JB

That was fantastic Phil.
And I'm sure many of us would like a copy of your 'doctored' BT.
Like your Strat too - it's a bit pinker than mine!

Thanks very much John and Steve for those nice comments - very much appreciated.

Yes I was very surprised when I first played along with the BT that the timing was completely different to the Jigsaw version, however I played it, it didn't sound right. :o

I can't claim the credit for stretching the intro and outro - my son Andy did it for me ;)

You're very welcome to the modified version (as long as you have the original)

Phil,
Thank you very much for the link to the extended backing track.
Like you, I had so much trouble trying to play along to the original UBH track that I gave up!
Your generosity and your son's expertise are much appreciated.
Cheers,
JB

Hi Phil
First sound file I've had chance to listen to since my PC crash and it is well worth t.
Great sound and its interesting to see your finger positions for the Intro. I may well try that for myself.
Like you I found the UBH BT too rushed and slowed the lot down to 90% in Adobe Audition.
Great job,Phil - and to Andy on the BT.
Cheers
