Candle in the Wind. Video

Postby Phil McGarrick » 09 Feb 2013, 18:37

An Elton John composition from the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album of 1973.
This instrumental version is based on the "Steppin'to The Shadows" album released in 1989.
In 1997, Elton John performed a rewritten version of the song as a tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales. This version of the song was released as a single, and reached No. 1 in many countries, proving a much greater success than the original, officially being listed as the highest selling single of all time.

The BT came from "Casting a Shadow" and thanks to my son Andrew for adding the Harmony lines on the PRS in between the verses.

Steve Gibb does the Tabs here http://www.bbigmusic.com/bbigmusic/Guitar_Tabs.html

Hope you like "Candle in the Wind"
Cheers Phil

Absolutely brilliant phil, really enjoyed that one, looked a bugger to play well done and the prs bits from your lad really added to the whole piece 8-)

Thank you very much Steve for your nice comments - I'll let Andy know the PRS bits went down well too.

I imagine that quite a bit of effort went into this one Phil and the result was well worth it!

You don't often hear this tune played and I enjoyed it all the more for that.

Thank you very much Roger and Fred for your great comments.
There's a few of what I call "Hankism's" in there which take a bit of practice - luckily the Tabs are good for this as Steve has
already worked them out. 8-)
I think the harmony parts (That Andrew played) should have been included on the BT maybe that's why we don't hear it very often.

All the best... Phil

Wonderful stuff. I was moved and entertained by the music and envious of your mastery of the fretboard!

Hi Phil and Andy
What a beautiful track.
Great playing and the flying fingers of Phil got those Hankisms on the money.
Not to detract from your performance, but Andy playing the PRS, especially at the key change, gave me goosebumps. What a sound!!
I wonder if Andy could ever be persuaded to do an SF with the PRS. He needn't show his face! Lol
Top marks for both of you.
Cheers

Thank you very much Mikey and Ian for your replies - much appreciated.

Ian - yes I was chuffed with Andy's Harmony parts without which I would have had to do it myself
I'll have to persuade him to do a SF on the PRS some time.

PS - Just bought this on Ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WEBER-MASS-AT ... true&rt=nc

This should allow the VOX to be turned right up without killing your ears and get that "tube" sound that you only hear at high volume.

All the best... Phil
