Brian's right, and I believe this one was strung in 'normal' 12-string tuning and is seen in a few photos & the odd live show videos from the period. I think the next D6 Hank had was tuned in octaves - as per 'On The Beach' in the film 'Wonderful Life', so he probably used the first D6 more frequently as it would have been more practical for most of their 12-string numbers.

In that photo, I just noticed a Precision Bass style pick-up cover on John's bass, rather than the usual 3 bars - can't say I've ever noticed that before...

OK I see what you mean, it's possible that this is an early example and there were patent issues, so Jim changed the design to the bars. :idea:
