I may be wrong, but I think that is actually his first Double 6 - 12 string. The first he had did not feature the "Marvin" style three piece scratch-plate and controls of the later more "traditional" D6s he played.

To my knowledge the Jazz Split sound was never there in double six

Take a look at this clip - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93EHAQKsICc at 8:10 or thereabouts. You have to look closely at this section of the video and you will see it is this prototype version of the Double 6. I am certain it is the same guitar as shown in the photo at the start of this thread.

are not these the guitars they used in Australia, without the top horn scratch plate - I believe this is a clip from an Australian TV show

The guitars Hank and Bruce are using in that video are Baldwin prototypes- they have four control knobs instead of three knobs and a switch, a slightly different shaped body and the different scratchplates.

The video comes from the Australian TV show Bandstand recorded in 1967- there is a DVD set with the history of the show which includes this episode which was a special featuring the Shadows who were touring Australia at that time.
