Hi mark
Turned out nice.

Personally I wouldn't be totally happy with it with the two holes visable though - but that's probaby just me.
I think I would have spent a custom replica plate with a less deep cut out (cut out deep as possible, but with the edge of the plate just covering the holes). The plate wouldn't be totally original I know, but I think the style and overall appearance would remain "original" - and most importantly (to me) without the holes to catch the eye. No offence meant, just my personal view.

As for the (sales) value - I'm not sure. Unless my memory is letting me down there's been a number on ebay in the last 6 - 12 months, most of them not selling for even a lower minimum. Value/money aside I wouldn't mind having one and could easily find room for it 8-)

Hi Mark,

As an another recovering 'Burnsaholic', I have to say that what you have done to restore this guitar is excellent and a real credit to you, it looks absolutely beautiful...........enjoy it!

Let me be the last to judge on value, however I recently tried to sell my all original January 1962 Gretsch 6120DC, I was looking for around £2350.00 for it but couldnt get any interest even around the £2000.00 level, so I shall hang on till the market picks up. :(

Cheers,
Mark (piecrusty)

My thought exactly. The holes are unsightly.

Those holes wouldn't be visible if the OP Had just stuck with the scratchplate that was already there, and just gone with the fact this was originally a rare variant on the 'deluxe' version of this guitar.

See thread:

viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9823

Utter madness. And let's face it- it's simply a lie that he was offered 3k for this. Why would anyone offer that money when you could buy four, unmessed with examples for the same price.

A shame. This isn't quite up there with the thread on a restoration forum I go on where someone stripped a 50s Martin because 'the finish was all cracked', but it's in the same spirit.
