An unusual Barracuda

Postby balston11 » Wed Dec 07, 2016 8:22 pm

A very kind person called Denis contacted me via the website with pictures of a Barracuda. He is from France and refers to the guitar as a Jet Harris Barracuda it is not the one from 1997 which we know about but the COA says 2002 and a serial number of 0649 anyone know more? some pictures:

Could it be this model ? Don't think it's this actual guitar as can't see hand crafted by or if Scratchplate is tortoiseshell

its very difficult to work some of these out. I have seen so many one off burns models over the years there doesnt seem to be any pattern. This is probably a special order or a trial model

It's strange how the guitar has COA in 2002 and yet it has a gold plated Apache tremolo, which I understand weren't used until 2007. Perhaps this gold hardware was added as an after market part. Also no bound neck and Barracuda pick ups which were used on the early designs. Anyway looks a nice guitar.

I think I can help with the mystery of the Apache point. I have one of the original limited edition Custom Shop Apaches issued in 2001 - that has the same tremolo plate. Originally they were limited to 12 models, but I heard that was extended to 24 - perhaps some were not sold. They all had gold hardware.

All the best,

Nick
