Cobra am I missing something

Postby balston11 » Wed Feb 08, 2017 12:27 pm

In this listing the seller says only 5 of these made see

I can't see anything different (other than the signatures and the hard case) with this guitar from other Cobras. I asked the seller he said quote
All i can tell you is that when i Bought it from Barry Gibson who owns Burns Guitars he told me he only made 5 & he is keeping no 1 it has Tri-Sonic & The point Classic on the chrome bridge

Some years back, I bought a Burns Cobra similar to this Red one. Mine was in White with a White scratchplate & Trisonic pickups. So ..... it looks exactly like mine, which cost me around £200 brand new. I believe one of the colour options at the time was 'Guards Red', being Burns take on what we regard as Fiesta Red on Strats. I was not very impressed with this budget Burns model, & subsequently got rid of it. I much preferred the popular 'Marquee' model.

One thing you need to know about the Cobra, and as far as I know I'm the first to notice! They changed it in about 2011, and the early ones are much better. The newer ones can be identified by the addition of an unsightly truss-rod cover, but you may also notice the lack of a string tree, the head being angled back (like a Gibson) to compensate. Also there is a scarf joint in the neck, at the head end. Nothing wrong with this as it adds strength but does spoil the looks.

On mine (I had two for a short time) the metalwork was of a lower quality; some of the trem screws and springs were already starting to rust and although I have no evidence ot this, I suspect the rest of the haedware, plus pickups and electronics, may be of a lower quality also.

Why these changes were made is a mystery. Perhaps they changed factories.

Nobody any ideas why the Cobra in the original post is special?
