Burns R2 Marquee Series Electric Guitar - White Finish

Postby Tony Szpala » Sat Jul 22, 2017 9:13 pm

Just been looking at a Burns guitar on ebay - seller is Craig's Music - claims to be a limited edition model - it's fitted with hum buckers (not single coils). Selling (brand new) for £269-00.
Does anyone know if this is a genuine model as it seems a significant departure in specification for a Burn?

Yes there are two Models which came out around 4 years but BG has kept them very low profile for some reason . The MR2 is pearlescent white and employs two high output Alan Enstwistle humbuckers. They are fully switchable and you have control to mix all four coils.
The MR3 is a 3 pick up version in metallic black. it employs the same humbuckers with the addition of a single coil. It has 5 way switching with a coil tap switch. I have both models and they are pretty versatile. I wouldn't recommend for Shadows work although it gets a reasonable sound but eq is needed. Really a rock guitar with the high output levels.
Hope this helps

Bill

Many thanks for your comprehensive response - not only on its authenticity but also its capabilities. I'm not into rock (as opposed to Rock n' Roll) thus will not now be buying one.

I'd be interested in trying one, before writing it off as just another heavy metal/hard rock type guitar..

You can always use the clean channel on an amp and play it at moderate volume, old chap!

Seems a reasonable price for a new Burns too, IMHO...they can be found occasionally here in Oz where I live, but cost much more unfortunately..

They are a well made solid guitar with many good features. Nigel Bennett in Australia has them in stock. The switching on mine was via a rotary switch which could be troublesome I see the later ones have a toggle switch. They are a lot of guitar for the money being offered. In preference I prefer the MR3 more Burns / Strat. When they first came out they were very scarce so ordered from 2 stores. They all arrived ! Since sold 2 on

Hi Bill,

I e-mailed Nigel Bennett who gave me some prices on a couple of models (MR2 and 62 Bison reissue) which are the only models he has in stock at the low end of the price and model range (I asked what he had under AUS1,000 (about 600 quid) as I'm on an old age pension with limited funds these days!)

Unfortunately, there is no dealer in South Australia where I live, and I'm not really keen on spending a significant sum in buying sight unseen without trying one first..the basic price for the cheaper MR2 without case is $585 (about 300 quid) and a Bison is $860 (about 500 quid)...

They look nice usable guitars though! :D
