Alan, the '64 Burns Marvin Anniversary was only made in white and introduced in 2004 as the 40th Anniversary model. If you have been offered a red one, it could be the 'Shadows' Anniversary of 2005 which has a maple rather than rosewood fingerboard.

Hi Dave

Yes the guitar I have seen does have a maple neck and Rez-o-Matic pickups.

It also has the marvin signature on the trem.

The neckplate say's The Shadows Custom Edition with the serial number.

Your comments appreciated.

Just had a look at the guitar Alan. It's not the 2005 limited edition that I thought it would be, that was gold plated and had both Hank & Bruce's signiture on the trem plate and was fitted with locking Sperzel tuners. I have the limited edition that I speak of and it's a great guitar, but the one in these pictures is the continuation of the run with some differences in spec, so I can't give any advice based on experience.

Hi Dave

Many thanks for the replies,I had only just noticed it wasn't gold plated.

I am considering not getting it now,I don't like buying guitars where the pedigree
can't be traced.

Perhaps someone who has one will come in with a comment.

I'll keep looking.

It has upgraded timber and pickups, is signed by both Bruce and Hank on the trem and comes with a ltd edition certificate etc...

Robbo swears blind it's a much better guitar than the earlier ones... see here... http://www.burnsguitars.com/burnscustomredguitars.php

I have one of the Shadows De Luxe limited editions (#237) and can confirm that it is a superb guitar - every bit as good as my US 57 Re-Issue Strat, with a neck as comfortable to play as any guitar I have had the opportunity to handle, vintage or otherwise.

Strange indeed! My understanding is that there were 2004 white 40th anniversary Marvins pruduced, with signed certificates by Hank. Then came the Shadows Custom in fiesta red, gold hardware and a signed certificate and trem plate by Hank and Bruce, limited to 500 guitars. As both were still sought after when these were sold an unlimited number are available branded the 64 model ( but with no certificate) in both white and fiesta red, but no gold hardware. The one in the pic seems to be a 64 which has had a custom neck plate added instead of the 64 logo. Also available was the green anninersary Marvin, limited to 800 with certificate and signed by Hank.
