Well well!

Look what has turned up on EBay UK! Original 60s Burns Split Sound 6 string Bass Guitar. Item Number is 330521996042.

Needs some work, but here's a project for someone who wants a six string bass of a rare type!

That's the second one to have come along as well- this one just sold.

I'm sort of thinking of bidding on that scratchplate, but I was more planning on restoring mine as a Vista Sonic rather than a split...hmm

SOLD for the pricely sum of:

Winning bid: GBP 536.00
Approximately AU $855.93

Hope it has gone to a good home, BURNS instruments from the '60s do require a 'lot of attention' IMHO! ;)

Another difference on these I haven't seen mentioned- bound necks...

Every split sound bass I've seen has had one...not sure if that's a common variation with the guitars, but mine is unbound, and I can't recall seeing a bound one that isn't a bass

Burns were in the process of switching to bound necks on some models just as the company was taken over by Baldwin. Just to complicate things, at least one model - the Bison - moved from having a bound neck to unbound over the same period.

Interesting...

Surely the Split Sonic had been discontinued by that point though? I don't know how drawn out the switchover to bound necks was, but Baldwin took over in sept '65, and the Split/Vista Sonics were discontinued in late '64

I didn't say that the process started when Baldwin took over.
