I suspect poly of some sort... never been sticky like the modern nitro finishes. Interesting that my local luthier who uses nitro based on spirit type solvents never has these problems. Suspect Gibson and Fender use water based nitro which takes about 2 years to harden properly...
Many thanks for that. I ask because a friend has a chip on the neck of his and wanted to know so that he can do a 'touch up' - I think he was intending to use Estapol gloss.
