Nope, you've taken a rare prototype or something, and made it be normal, thereby rewriting history.

Restorations should be tasteful. Should have left what was there alone, and simply added a pickup ring and scratchplate!

One of those Virginian style pickup surrounds is on eBay now.
Why don't you just buy it, take that black thing off and there you go.
What next?
A Floyd rose tremolo?.. EMG pickups?.
Hey! I think it would look good in silver.
I'll send you some hammerite!.

Calm down Patrick, I think you have made your point by now.
I respect your opinion - but Mark's opinion and preferences (and to some degree mine) obviously differs from yours, simple as that.
So no need to be scornful IMO.

The surround on ebay is the one Mark has removed from his GB66 and is trying to sell now.

Fair enough.
I apologize, I was having more of a laugh than anything, I wasn't being horrible....well I it wasn't my intention.
Getting hold of a scratch plate for one of those are a major achievement in it's self, as they're so rare.
Was it made or is it nos?.
as for the covers over the holes, Maybe down the line it could be taken to someone who could restore that area?
