Hi John,
Being the 'Rhythm' mainly, in my band, although I do play four or five Shads melodies. I was always keen on getting a decent Rhythm sound inc. an acoustic one. I do have an electro-acoustic guitar & a Laney acoustic amp, but in order to carry less gear to a gig, & for simple convenience of quick changeover while playing live, I use a Zoom G2 modelling pedal.
I generally use a Strat guitar & for Rhythm I use either the Middle pickup, or the Middle & Bridge together. The beauty of the G2 is that it is inexpensive, so I can carry a spare too. It is also very easy to use, providing you read the short manual, & very versatile. I have set up several patches which cover the various sounds I need, inc. the excellent acoustic simulation patch. I did adjust the parameters of that patch to suit myself, as I thought it could be improved on, but that's down to my individual taste. It really does sound like a crisp, jangly acoustic. The acoustic sim module on the G2 is one of the best available in my humble opinion, & really does contrast & sit well in the mix with a fat Lead guitar sound. My G2 gets plugged directly into a channel of our PA system & I therefore don't need to carry a conventional backline guitar amp, & I hear it through the wedge monitors. With just a pedal through the patches I can instantly change to a 'Lead' patch when I need to play a Shads melody, which I have also set up & adjusted the parameters to suit, with all the appropriate echos etc. You can set up some excellent Multi-tap echoes on the Zoom, as there are three different modules containing echoes, which can be set up to layer one on top of another. Highly recomended.
Regards, Tony.
