Thanks for the link David.A very interesting article.
The references to shellac were very helpful as I have a neck that has been sealed with shellac on its way from Musikraft in the US.
I think it will be my last project Strat! Well certainly for 2009.
Classic series FR body with gold hardware and 57/62's.

With reference to the Stewmac article. I would not recommend putting a coloured lacquer directly on to the wood, I have found the best solution is to give the bare wood two clearcoats first. Then a colour coat. In this way any mistakes can be rectified without recourse to removing frets in order to remove stain from within the grain of the wood.

An easy way to dull the finish, and give it a worn look is to rub lightly with t-cut.
