Blimey Guys and Gals!!!! Never, never, never, never, never ever get nail varnish remover within sniffing distance of your guitars!!!
It is related to cellulose thinners, which will strip paint and melt plastic! It's the most powerful solvent that's commonly available. Has anyone started spraying something with cellulose paint (a car for instance?) only to find it starts stripping the paint? No? That would be just ME then! The safest solvent for home use is Meths (Methylated Spirits or Methyl Alcohol for you foreigners!). It doesn't leave an oily residue like white spirit/turps. I know it's a bit of a waste of emergency drinking material but you don't need much for removing glue. Dunno what was on that scratchplate but, as everyone's said, the film isn't glued on. It's more like cling-film and just sticks by static electricity and it's own "stiction". Cheers, Lionel

I agree with Ecca... never get acetone near your guitar. Even the vapour can mark it...

definately not Nail varnish remover (which is Acetone). I always use WD40 for a multitude of things; removing sticky marks, spraying inside control cavity, lubricating selector switches. I know one guy who sprays his guitar neck (he reckons its better than fastfret!).

Just don't shake hands with him at the end of a performance, the smell of WD40 is harder to shift than glue residue.
Cheers
