Hi

What I know European standard is 230V, min 207V max 244V. ( standard -10%+6% ). It has been discussion about standard -10%+10% but what I know it is not decided.

I've just checked mine at 12.15hrs and it's around 247V with a frequency of 49.8Hz. I'm only using my plugin Power Monitor 'cos I can't be bovvered to mess around with a meter! It's normally around 240V+. I'm in Southampton. Perversely the Maplin Power Mon is rated at 230V! (made in China of course)
Amanda, surely electrical/electronic gear is OK for sustained 240 - 250V? If not, then I'm in trouble!

It is, but better use some surge protection device at least...

Hi Olsson, you've not quite got it right - it's +10%/-6%. I've done a little research as I didn't even realise that in the UK we had changed from 240V to 230V - then I found that actually we haven't! :o The EU "Harmonisation" was due to the UK being 240V and 'Europe' being 220V - so they "harmonised" to make it a universal 230V. Except they didn't! The EU Standard is now +10%/-6%, which is 216V - 253V - thus allowing everyone to keep their original voltages if they wanted to! Well, the UK wanted to, so in spite of all you read, we are still at a nominal 240V. Hopefully the Chinese manufacturers and designers realise this and just put the 230V badge on for show! Cheers, Lionel

I stand corrected. Apparently the limit was changed in 2003 to +/- 10%; equating to 207V to 253V. It follows logic that all electrical equipment designed for use in Europe must be able to operate within this range, or it's "Not Fit For Purpose". All our vintage amps (anything before, say, 2000!) will be fine!

Hello
Well i don´t think it is the EU-standard now. The recomendation is "Harmonised voltage limits" and that is 230V -10+6%. But it can be as You say that thay at last have been agreed.posting.php?mode=reply&f=21&t=1922#

We used to have 220V in France. I checked it a few days ago, and again right now, and in both cases it was 225V !

Many electronic components aslo have working tolerances like capacitors maybe +- 5% so with a high voltage input tolerance limit and say a low capacitance limit you could cross the red line ... :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: manufacturers should really have this in mind.. but maximising profit is also the name of the game for them and those old days of making something solid and great went long ago ... that said my Vox Heritage is running fine after 12 months and it's had a fair bit of use both at home and at the guitar clubs.
