I wonder if Eminence and Celestion speakers are measured the same way, I have heard a G10 Vintage on a Vox Cambridge 30 amp, and it was much louder than the original "Bulldog" speaker.
But I never had the opportunity to listen to a 10" Eminence Ragin Cajun, so I can't compare.

As it happens I have a good local supplier for speakers - "Blue Aran" in Southampton, only about 2 miles from where I live! Their prices are as follows:-

Celestion Tube 10 (30W, 94dB) - £21.97
Celestion G10 Vintage (60W, 97dB) - £48.95
Celestion G10 Greenback (30W, 95dB) - £68.76
Eminence Legend 105 (75W, 100dB) - £30.64
Eminence Red Coat Series - Ram Rod (75W, 100dB) - £40.85
Eminence - The Copperhead (75W, 99dB) - £49.98
Eminence - Ragin Cajun (75W, 100dB) - £50.06

And just for a larf!
Fane Axiom AXA.10 (100W, 100dB) - £181.15 - Spot the deliberate "mistake" in the name of their guitar speakers series?

Thanks Ian - I'm still trying to decide but I'm heading towards the Eminence Red Coat Ramrod, although the cheaper Legend 105 is tempting!

Thanks Didier - do you ever sleep? The Jensen Neo actually has a sensitivity of 98.9dB, which is fine, and resonant frequency of 102.7Hz but costs £75 from HotRox. Only they and Watford valves seem to sell Jensens in the UK. Their ceramic and Chicago series are in my price range though, but I can't find the Chicagos on Jensen's site so there are no specs! From the lack of sellers I guess Jensens are not popular in the UK? E.g. no "Mod" or "Jet" series in the UK!

Hi Lionel

It should be remembered that not all speakers respond in the same way to the test signals used in arriving at sensitivity/efficiency ratings.
It is always best to listen (not always possible of course) to speakers before buying rather than buying solely from paper specs.
One way of doing this is to go round the music stores trying out different amps to get an idea of the "sound" of the different makes of speakers.
You & I might well listen to the same speaker/cab set up & hear different things which makes it harder to go with recomendations from other people about systems that you have not heard for yourself.
Confusing........of course but all the more rewarding when you get it right :D

One of my "projects" in the pipeline is to be a guitar cab with an "active" cross over system like those found in multi driver hi fi/pa cabs that would have the benefit of being able to be "tuned" to suit the user, wether I can ever get it to work properly ???????????????

Cheers

Dick.

I agree Dick. As I'm not intending to tour music shops (My shop is right in front of me now! ;) ) I'm relying on sound clips. It's one of the reasons why I favour Eminence at the moment - I like the sounds, the price and they also have a high sensitivity. Generally speaking I've observed that speakers with a low resonant frequency do have a better bottom end, as you would expect, so specs are quite important, but not everything! There are many variables of course, not the least of which is the enclosure and the amp driving them. A fully objective test is impossible. It would be nice if I could have a few speakers to test in my finished amp and decide which I like best! I don't think they do "sale or return" on speakers though!
Cheers, Lionel
