You're absolutely right Steve (and Roger): EQ is crucial to getting the right sound, in fact I also took heed of what Ronnie was saying in the video and that prompted me to buy the MXR EQ. The Roland one he uses is long since discontinued but the MXR works very well and is low noise compared to some cheaper EQ pedals I tried before.

Caline CP24 is a 10 band EQ clone of the MXR pedal and is about £30 on eBay. Same eq bands and basic design.
