A bit more on 'the Duck', here's some info of how well it did in Australia:

'Aussies were always fond of a guitar-based instrumental. The Shadows were as big here as they were in the UK, and they were still charting alongside the Beatles into the mid-60s: their last hit in Oz was Bombay Duck in 1967 (#3 Adelaide, #10 Brisbane). The Americans preferred The Ventures, but we liked them as well: best of both worlds, down here. When surf music came along we took to it in a big way, and it melded in nicely with the guitar instrumental genre.'

That came from: http://poparchivesblog.blogspot.com/200 ... nder.htmlm: , of course they overlook the return of the reformed 'Shadows' in the 1980's.

Thanks Bill, I've never heard the Ventures version, but found it in "Freddie's JukeBox":-

Go to this URL http://jukebox.au.nu/
Click on Tune/Album Search (in top left corner of screen),
Song/Composition= Bombay Duck
Artist/Group = Ventures
Search
Click on the speaker icon next to "Bombay Duck" to listen to it.

Bruce,

Had a listen to The Ventures version at http://jukebox.au.nu/instromania/instro ... apan_no._2

I note the lead is on 12 string -and not bad, but I think I prefer The Shadows version myself. I was able to download an mp3 copy of it on that site by the way. ;)
