This is such a no brainer for me....because I had the same with my DS.
The upper horn scratch plate part was glued on, on the early Double Six....the part with the engraving was also glued on....look at the absence of screws in that plate too on the pic on the beach!
When I bought my 1964 Burns DS serie nr 53xx the upper horn part was also in the case, because the glue had lost it's adhesive force....after 20 years.
So no secret proto or something special.....just a glue failure.
