The British luthier Brian Eastwood built a similar guitar some years ago..his was a copy of a Dallas Tuxedo, or rather two back to back Tuxedos! Both necks were normal 6 string types however. This (and a number of his other strange self built guitars) was featured in Guitar magazine October 2009.
