Advice wanted

Postby mart77 » Sun Feb 24, 2019 10:24 am

I’m looking for advice with my home bedroom setup. I want to play along to backing tracks through headphones. I have a Hall and Collins, Caline EQ pedal and Joyo Ac Tone pedal. The backing tracks are on a smartphone (not an iPhone). What could I use at the end of the chain instead of a normal guitar amp or connecting to a pc?

Thanks
Martin

I use a marvellous little device - the Vox AC30 Amplug. Takes and mixes feeds from my iPod BT's and the guitar/HCE via the Caline EQ - sounds more like Hank than through my big Vox speaker. Will also feed into the PC and gives authentic sound on recordings. Only £30-40 last time I looked!

In the past before I started using my iPad for everything I used a simple 4-channel mixer. Could connect main out to the AUX input on my hi-fi and also had a separate headphones output. I think it cost around £75. Was also useful that it had an XLR input, so I could use a mic’d up acoustic as well.

a little vox mini 3 could be used if not? Cheap battery powered or AC adaptor and has aux in for backing tracks with headphone out

I have a Vox mini 3 and it’s great! I use it when I practice or when I learn a new number.

I have the 'Vox Mini Five Rhythm' which does what the mini three does plus 99 drum beats and other stuff. very good little bit of kit, ideal for home use.

Hi Martin,

The H&C and the AcTone provide the echoes and amp simulation -- the Caline EQ isn't really needed -- so all you need is a way of amplifying the sound and mixing the backing tracks. Try this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/ION-Audio-Tail ... way&sr=8-3

Feed the output from the AcTone into the AUX channel and let the smartphone send the BTs via Bluetooth (or USB).

For an extra 100squid you can get 50 or 100W versions. You could gig with those :) .

DaveC.
