Dave

I've all biographies of all the major players/employees, also the one of Leo "written" by Phyllis Fender.
The things your read in those books are a real eye-opener at times.
Funny detail is, like I wrote before the geezers are claiming almost all the same 5 things about the strat....only one claimed the Fiesta red.

Andy

In one of my above reply there is a link to the 58-59 catalogue scan in high colour....with in the middle a red strat with a short golden trem arm....
Could it be the one?

Cheers Rob

Thst is quite amazing, what you know, Rob.

Yes, I was looking at the catalog iou posted. Could that the the catalog Cliff snd the Shads looked at?

I couldn’t afford a Fender in the early 1960s and devoured the little material available on them then. I so envied the rich kids that had Fenders. I so wanted to have one.

Andy,

Yes this is a sample of the famous catalogue !

A few eye openers about Leo are:

His hearing wasn't 100%
Just one eye with sight.
He couldn't tune any instrument
He couldn't play guitar
First in,last out of the factory
When he was a millionaire he only wanted to eat out in a coupon restaurant still.
He liked to have the newest photo-camera
He past away dressed to go to work

He just wanted to give the guitar-players the best guitar possible, inspired by a few guitar-players in a band/orchestra who were struggling to get heard.
In later life he became religious and he told his wife he got a special feeling while he witness that orchestra, and he was convinced it was a god given idea...

He was also convinced that his work was done, because the last guitar on his bench was the perfect one...
The evening before his death the guitar was finished, and Leo told his wife he felt sick, but he was planning to inform the others the next day... how the guitar electronics sup-post to work and how to be build!
Sadly that never happen, the guitar is still in his office, blueprints and all...but the G&L crew haven't a clue how it works and how to build, to this day!
They decide to leave it that way!

So in Leo's mind the perfect (god given)guitar is ready for us .... sadly we will never know...

In a other biography you can reed comments by the kids, they where happy when dad arrived home from the Fender plant, with his pickup full of guitar necks and bodies and amp cabinets that were chipped or damaged while they were sawed or painted etc. to keep the fire going in the heater

Cheers Rob

My pleasure Dave!!!
Here's a nice one....that was in one of my bookcases upstairs .....

The Fender Archives, a scrapbook with artefacts, treasures and inside information by Tom Wheeler

Probably a few dozen more about Fender in my collection....and I guess 150+ of other brands and models...I have to get out more
I have to get ordering my books by brand in a dedicated case....some rainy Sunday-afternoon... :ugeek:

Cheers Rob

Walking through my garage, it struck me that, under the lights we have there, my car looks like fiesta red. Or, as it is Italian (a 33-year-old one), probably roman red.
