Gibson L5 on order.....

Postby ecca » Fri Jan 22, 2010 8:48 pm

I ordered a Gibson L5 last May in Wine Red and was quoted 4 to 6 months delivery from Gibson.
I emailed Gibson this week and asked them where it was, this was the reply I got.

Dear Mr. Thacker,

Thank you for your interest in Gibson.

There are 2 open orders in the system, but I do not have any insight into the production schedules of the Custom Shop, as these are confidential.

As far as I can check there are no new L-5 CES guitars to be expected from the Custom Shop any time soon; this is normally not more information than the dealer can give you.

L-5 guitars are very special guitars, for which it is not unusual to have to wait one year.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me again.
Kind regards,
Stijn Vergeest

Cancel your order, get your deposit back and buy an Aria Pro II....

PS: Like my SG? [eyes right] It's the SG Supreme, with ebony fretboard, Super 400 / Les Paul Custom headstock, Classic 57s, Grovers, Trini Lopez-type fret markers and a sandwich of mahogany and tiger-striped maple for the body...

Ring the mothers. Here's a list.

http://resources.bnet.com/topic/gibson+ ... corp..html Click on "Executive Profiles"

I'd start with the "Guitar Master", sounds like he'd know something other than the way to the doughnut stall.

Cheers, Alan.

Ecca

If you're interested, I know where there's a Byrdland for sale in UK from a private individual and it's beautiful.

Thanks for comments all.
That's a nice L5 on ebay Dave, it's the Wes Montgomery with one pick-up.

It's the L5 CES that I want with 2 pick-ups.
The whole thing is so disappointing, I've emailed Gibson saying exactly that.
I had 3 quotes on the guitar from suppliers here and in the USA and they all said the same thing; 4 to 6 months delivery.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Great SG Jim, looks a dream.

I can understand your disappointment Ecca but there have been some good suggestions posted here.

I don't know if the link below takes you to the guitar in the USA that Dave mentioned but it looks fantastic and at a really good price.

The only difficulty is that the seller says that he will only ship within the States. If you ask him he may help and if not maybe you know of someone over there that could help you.

Ecca,

One of our friends in the USA may be able to assist you (with an American address, etc) on that purchase...

Here's the latest communique from Gibson regarding my complaint;

I really regret the situation you are in right now, but we simply cannot speed up the production.
For the deposit; that is something that dealers can do, but over which we don’t really have control, although in my opinion it’s really a way too high percentage what they ask.

Unfortunately dealers sometimes give more favorable arrival dates then they should, only to have you as a customer.
The only thing that I can do is to let our sales people know about the dealer having asked you a 50% percentage.

That's helpful of him isn't it ?
Fat lot of good that'll do.
