Acquired this echo unit which I believe was manufactured
by Tom Jennings in the 70's.

Surely individual replay head playback speed could only be adjusted if the position of each head could be changed?

If it were accomplished by changing tape transport speed, changing the timing of one head would change them all.

Hi Jim,

If you are referring to the SHORT, MID and LONG controls, my guess is that these simply alter the LEVEL of the three playback heads, rather than the delay TIME, as you said - impossible with fixed heads.

A nice straightforward design. If I had been sitting with Tom Jennings when he designed the control panel, I would have said "Please include numbers around every control". To get the right echos (especially for that sound) needs precision and a numbered dial makes re-setting so much easier.

Hello
Yes bought two of these new in 1975 (ish) me and the lead guitarist of our band.
Echotapper is correct with his guess that the 3 controls determine the amount of echo from each head.
We found them ideal for p.a use and passable for shads guitar use although not perfect.
They did offer more echo patterns than the available copicats of the era with the use of the 3 controls
giving better/ more variation on an old theme.
I also agree that a graduated 0-10 graphic on the panel would have been useful.
There was one on ebay recently for an expensive £1500.00 a lot too dear i thought for what you get.
A good reliable piece if kit after all said.
regards
