Playing live there are two reasons for me to use the loop: I do not want to do without my volume pedal, which also reduces the overdriven volume of my two-channel amp without changing the sound - if it is connected in the loop. So I can regulate the lead sound with the desired overdrive of the preamp.
Secondly, the echoes are not cut off when I turn the pedal off - if the delay is connected in the loop (after the pedal). Swell effects sound better this way.
And third: An echo in front of an overdriven amp sounds horrible to me.
