Nylon bridge saddles

Postby GoldenStreet » 03 Sep 2020, 20:05

I am interested in purchasing a set of nylon bridge saddles for an ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge, with retainer wire, fitted on a 1963 Epiphone Casino.

Such saddles are advertised on Ebay, but is anyone able to advise as to whether there may be specific types for bridges of this vintage with and without the retainer wire, or would they be suitable for both? Thanks anyone for any insight.

Back in 1968, a musical acquaintance of mine bought a s/h Gibson ES-330 from 1962 (mint condition). That guitar had the nylon saddles and the wire retainer. I assume that Epiphone Casinos of the same vintage (with first, smaller and more Gibson-ish, headstock) would have had the same bridge (marked "Archer" on the underside).

There were other small differences between the Gibson and the Epiphone (eg, the Casono's white pickguard and the one-piece bent-steel bracket, plus the all-steel Kluson tuners), but the bridge, tailpiece, electronics and pickups will all have been the same.
