The mixing desk on my Mac has everything you'd ever need as part of the programme, including an echo unit that you can use an infinate number of heads so the Meazzi & Binsons are easy, as well as Abbey Road Reverb, every type of compression and EQ and spades more features. It's all in Logic Pro X.

Hi Peter,

The Vintage Sounds system is based on going via an audio interface to a DAW with VST plugins, then routed back out to a VOX AC30, this obviously provides a VOX tone and brings valves into the equation.

Given one already has an AC 30/15 or suitable amp and audio interface, I believe the plugins come from shareware or free sources, there is no doubt Christian Boileau’s sound is excellent!

I’m using an iMac and have taken a different route after many years of using Logic pro and MainStage, but it’s not a budget option.

My DAW is Ableton Live 10 Suite (about to be updated to version 11, which is a free upgrade early next year if you purchase version 10), but there is an entry level “Lite” version that will probably suit most people recording guitar to back track (on offer at the moment for £55.00, normal price £69.00). Apart from wireless connection and Peterson Strobe Tuner everything after a Focusrite “Claret Pre 2 USB” audio interface is plugins.

My main plugin is Line 6 Helix Native, which is again is not a budget buy at £399.00 plus VAT, but I tend to agree with the reviewers that having tried many of the other top amp sims this ranks amongst the best, it comes with many amp models and potentially has nearly everything you need with included FX.

This has Space Echo emulation and other various echoes that can have multiple instances for multi-head.

Another more reasonably priced amp sim that is hight rated is Scuffham S-Gear, no specific Vox modelling but but certain models can get you there.

Two of my favourite echo plugins is Overloud’s Echoson (Binson) and Sound toys Echoboy, again there fairly frequent discount offers on both these.

Lastly, I tend to use Redwirez mixIR3 with Bigbox Vintage Classics for Vox cab emulation, but the one’s in Helix native are very good!

Having said that Celestion may just have released a bit of game changer with SpeakerMix Pro, but even at the introductory offer price it’s not cheap!

i have achieved very satisfactory sounds using Jam Vox plugin for Logic Pro. It has a great Roland RE301 emulation along with the various vox models. Of course it depends how far you want to go. Bias FX also has lots of options of Amps and Pedals etc and even the standard Logic options do give great results.

Ive been using the Vintage Sounds VST for the last few weeks and it is so easy with every song having its own set patch and i have been able to get very close to the records with no additional tweaking but sadly Windows only although it is possible to use with Linux also now.

For many years ive used amps and various other things trying to record but the amp modelling stuff is so good these days all you need is a laptop and interface and you can get any sound you want

If it’s something along the lines of Steve’s suggestion your looking for, AMR (Audio Media Research) Have taken over Peavey “ReValver” which is worth a look as it’s free with some basic models, but you can purchase a Vox AC30 model on sale for $7.99 at the moment:

I had full recommendation of this system from Warren in 2007 & then much more recently Brian Bennett told me about Logic Pro X.
It's what they use and I find it streets ahead of the PC stuff that is desperately trying to keep up.
The echo unit alone in Logic 7 was amazing and as good as anything the echo companies built and put on sale.
You just needed to know how to use it and I made it my business to understand it.
Regarding amplifier Sims and processing effects Logic are ahead in all of this.
