Guitar Cabinet Mic

Postby Bill Bowley » Sat Mar 13, 2010 6:55 am

Would appreciate advice from the 'learned members' on the best buy for a cabinet mike for the AC50. I'm currently looking at either a Shure SM57 or a Sennheiser E609, how do they rate? With due regard for prices, any others that are proven performers in this task? I have noticed a Marshall unit, MARSHALL MXL 2001 MOGAMI MIC CONDENSER MICROPHONE (pictured) but not a lot reviews about it.

Regards ;)

The Shure SM57 is generally regarded as the industry standard for that type of application and has been around for years.

I use one frequently and would certainly recommend it.

As a preference I use an E609 because I think they sound nicer.

Or you could use an AT4050 which is nicer still but more expensive.

Thanks team, I guess I wasn't too far off the mark with the two main choices. I am still intending to go either for the Shure or Sennheiser, however 'overnight' here in Oz I bought a brand new Marshall Mogami unit (from the USA) as shown in the pic 'on impulse' to try it out, it's new and at a price of $99AUD (incl shipping) it was worth the whirl whilst I decide on the 'main unit' I think.

The E609 picks up your buzzing quite nicely. It's also good at faithfully recording the hiss.
