CUSTOM SHOP

Postby MoonCat » 06 May 2010, 10:05

Hello Shadsfriend! I have a plan to order a new Fender Strat Fiesta red from US Custom Shop. I would like it to be a little bit special, and I was thinking about a 62-body, rosewood neck and with gold hardware.
I think I have seen pictures of a guitar looking like that on these pages before. Was it David Martin in Legend? Can somesone help me with a picture?
Best regards

Hi Even

The Custom Shop will certainly make you whatever guitar you want but I'm afraid you'll have to wait quite some time for it - probably over a year.

The guitar you describe sounds very much like their "Time Machine" 60 NOS series which is a stock item and has a C profile neck with rosewood board and a 3 ply scratchplate. They are very nice guitars (I have one myself in Fiesta Red) but the downside is that they have chrome hardware and currently the CS is not offereing Fiesta Red as a colour option. They do, however, come up on the second hand market from time to time so it may be worthwhile keeping an eye on eBay etc. It shouildn't be a problem to have the hardware gold plated.

Cheers.

Hi Even.

I know by my self, that FCS makes great guitars, but i´ve just received a masterpiece from
Alan Brason. (an english luthier)
And I must say, that quality is about the same, and much, much cheaper...IMHO

Cheers

The problem with "Strats" made by people other than Fender is simply, that if you want a good guitar cheaper, then there are a number of alternative routes to go down. And what you finish up with is a good guitar. But it isn't a Custom Shop Masterbuilt Stratocaster... just a good guitar.

But if "the real thing" is what you have always wanted, then that's not the real thing...

You may find, depending on the builder you choose at Fender, that it may take only a few months for customshop to deliver. I ordered 2 masterbuilt customshop guitars not too long ago (the "Hank Marvin" Strat and PBass pictured elsewhere in this forum) and recall I was able to get the guitars within 6 months.

Good luck.
