One of the ones that got away!

Postby Tone » 07 Aug 2010, 12:30

Hi

Just seen this on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

If it is genuine (and it looks to be) it's a rare beast indeed. Because these guitars so rarely come on the market it's difficult to put a value on it but, in the light of what other Hank Signature Strats have fetched in the last few months his starting price of £6000 seems way too much.

With an unusual guitar like this it's a pity that the seller couldn't take the trouble to put on some decent photographs.

Cheers.

Well certainly the story is genuine. Arbiter at the time did issue a letter explaining the situation. A bit of research on the Net led me to a copy of it.
I undrstand that only 5 remain in captivity which indeed makes it rare.
The pics are rubbish considering the potential value of the guitar, although in general all the bits are "right" including that pointless string tree - whats the need for one if you use Sperzels??
The Serial Number would be right. SExxxx was a series set aside in 1988 by Fender for a whole series of "Signatures" of which this was one.
I believe that our AlainLaFrance owns another of the 'ones that got away'. (Might even be THIS one? :?: :!: ) He should be able to add more info.
cheers

Yes, well spotted indeed, Rog. Could be nothing to it, of course but caution is definitely warranted.

Mind you, at that price I doubt very much if he'll get any bids.

Cheers.

Has anyone ever bought anything from Oasis? I was about to buy a EASY-MUTE arm from them and now I'm a bit "squeamish" after reading this!

I bought a CRS 59 and a Peavey classic 30 and had no probs (ashtray bridge cover was late arriving but not Oasis's fault) Howard is very good to deal with.

Hi

I'd second Keith's comments. I've been dealing with Howard at Oasis for several years and found him very knowledgeable, helpful and honest.

BTW, the guitar which started off this thread didn't sell and, so far as I can see, hasn't been relisted yet.

Cheers.
