Hank Marvin Ramírez Flamenco guitar

Postby Xosé » 22 Nov 2010, 10:59

Hello,

I'm from Spain and this is my first post here.

Due to a research on progress, I'm looking for a photo of Hank Marvin Ramírez Flamenco guitar, used on 'Guitar Tango' recording from July 1962.

Have you ever come across with a photo of that guitar?? Could you help me to find one??

I will be awaiting for your news...

Best!! ;)

Xosé

P.D.: Please, excuse my poor English language...

Excellent... Thank you very much, Jim!! ;)

Now, next step would be to find a photo where the label could be clearly seen...

Best!! ;)

BTW: is there any source (=interview, book, article, etc.) where Hank Marvin states that he owns a Ramírez flamenco guitar??

Thanks in advance and best wishes!! ;)

Hi Xose (sorry, can't find an accent key!)

Hank gave an interview in the British magazine 'Beat Instrumental' in about 1965 or 1966 where he listed the various guitars he owned at that time- one of the guitars was a Ramirez flamenco. Part of that interview is repeated in the biography book 'The story of the Shadows' by Mike Read.

I'd never seen that Magnasound device before, but presuming that the video is not a recent film, maybe it was an early contact type pickup for nylon string acoustic instruments? In recent times, a piezo-electric pickup would be more likley to be used with or without an internal microphone device. Maybe it was a version of the contact microphone 'bugs' like Ibanez and Barcus Berry Hot Dots which people used before piezo units became widely used?

Hope this helps!

Buenas dias from Australia!

Xose,

Cheers!

Are you anywhere near San Sebastian? We loved the place when we were over in 1993.
