Bestsounding AC 30 / JMI aera

Which AC 30 of the JMI aera is considered to be the bestsounding amp.
Is it shure the AC 30 supertwin / slope sided / treble model / piggy back /
open cab / 2 x silver alnicos ?
A former bandmate used one in the 60/70`s for gigging. The sound was one
of the best cleansounds I ever heard. Loud and clear with a lot of punch !!!!!
Fuller in sound than my former AC 30 combo ( 1965 / TB grey panel / silver alnicos ) !
The guitar was a 63 strat with a rosewood neck. The echobox was a Dynacord
Echocord Super 62 ! In musician's circles his rig produced THAT sound at that
time. It was not a copy of the Shadows sound. But for all of us it was absolutely
THAT sound.
His guitar sounded often like a ZITHER ( instrument )especially when he played some
waltzes and polkas.
There were at this time still none PA systems. And the sound in small and middle
locations was GREAT !

Hans

PS: the amp has a good home and is still working full ! No rust and dust in it !

Hi Hans,
A big question! My band used closed back Supertwins, non top boost and there was a definite lack of treble, especially with a Strat. The treble model I find a bit thin,- I have one. Is there any possibility your friend replaced the rectifier valve with a solid state rectifier? - this makes quite a difference to the power and punch of the amplifier if the valves can stand it, which in the sixties they probably could. I have several vintage AC30s, they all sound slightly different but all like AC30s !! I dare say everyone will have a different opinion.
Cheers,
Des.

The only effects he used was a small blue MXR EQ and the echobox. The cab was not closed.
He played very loud. The cab had a piggy - back stand and he turned the cab 45 degrees that the
sound came not directly when I was in front of the stage. Interesting that there was no lack of
treble. The sound as full and rich !

Maybe that this was a reason for his awsome sound.

Really - Well that wouldn't make much difference then would it ?
I can't begin to understand why other Vox amps didn't sound as good . . . . . . . . . .
