Hi Didier,

This is a real nasty fault, I rang Vox technical support and it's got them stumped as well!
It wasn't the output I.C. which was only cheap thankfully.

According to the shop I've got an even nastier Line 6 spider 2 amp to look at as well which has
blown up!

I've got one of those and though it's not too pleasing to the eye, it sounds great.

Hi Dave,

Just hope it doesn't develop the fault I have on this one!

I'll have to tell Vox when I find it!

dose anyone have an opinion on the jml amps that the shadows are currently useing on the tour?
when i was at nottingham fm arena, bruces amp was hissing quite alot to a point where his technician turned it off and used the spare,i have also been told that at rehersals they had to replace the lot with new amps.
If an amp is only running for a few hours each night,i cant believe that the valves are giveing out after only aweek.
any explanations?

,

In earlier days it was easier to do some modefications, on the picture you can see an open Laney KB40 amp (from ca 1988). I tuned it upabout 15 years ago to get enough power to play haerable beside an Fender Twin Reverb. In the background you can see the old power transformer and the unit containing the ac/dc converter and the (power)amp In the front you can see the new power transformer , ac/dc converter and the black ILP poweramp (90W at 8 and 120W at 4 ohm).
not visible is the replaced speaker. Nowadays it is a crime when you have opened a unit, to get it closed

Regarding the JMI problems, it's difficult to say what is going on without knowing all
the facts.

The amps should be reliable as a lot of pro players seem to be using them.

They are based on the original early Jennings / Vox circuits!

There is some hiss on the ef86 channel as there will be with any
high gain amplifying stage, but it shouldn't drown out the signal.

The old 1962 AC15 I have here has been transported to many clubs
over the last few months and not given any problems.

Hi Peter,

It's a fact that the new amps (and some older ones!) are not made easy to get at!

A lot also use integrated circuit power stages that were designed for HiFi work.

The line 6 amp I mentioned above had both channels blown probably due to someone inserting
a mono jack lead into the extension speaker sockets, the problem with this is that the socket
is a stereo one, one connection of which I think, is used for feedback to the output stage.

Anyway I fixed it but if I wanted the line 6 effects for an amp I'd buy a decent amp and a line 6
effects unit!

As for the Vox AD30VT - I sorted it!
