Gold Plating

Postby s4wgb » Sat Apr 30, 2011 2:58 pm

Hi all.
Can anyone please tell me where i can get a really good job done for some gold plating of guitar parts?
I have emailed some companies but no replies.
I would like the finish to be permanent and not wear off with sweat or just general use.
Can anyone recomend someone or how mch it would roughly cost to have all the hardware done.
Thank you
(ps) If anyone has any good pics of the 4 different colours of the gold finish i have read that you can get?
Deep, Antique, Bright, Dull.

As an alternative to gold look at one of the brass Albrafin finishes, they're not actually brass and come in various colours quite close to gold, I had a trem cover and saddles done close on 15 years ago and they show no sign of wear as yet.

I used to use Jebron Plating but I think they went out of business at Christmas time.

Albrafin is the trade name of a plating process and is a clear electrostatic dye in a resin base.

Get in touch with Ian Harper (silverlink) at Scarborough, he knows/uses someone who does a great job.

Hi David.Ref to which carat to have done having it plated with either 18 or 24ct doesn't the cobalt make it harder so it won't wear away so quick?
Is 18 still better than 24?
Thank you
