VOX Hiss

Ok Chaps, can anyone give me some idea as to the cause of the hiss on my Vox AD100.

It occures on radio transmitter only.
It is the same kind of background hiss the amp normally gives out when switched on, only magnified many times. Every note played is accompanied by this noise.

I have tried adjusting the gain, and squelch. No Joy. tried different channels. No better.

Radio System is t.bone ews 16r.

any ideas?

Hi Ian,

I had exactly the same problem with a t.bone radio system. Tried it with different guitars and amps but it was always the same, a kind of hiss and fizz accompanying each note. I tried the same as you by varying channel and squelch with no joy. Even tried different power supplies.
In the end I gave up and sold it on to a bass guitarist who used it with an active bass with no problems.
I now have a Samson airline which performs perfectly with all my guitars and amps.

Any bass player need a radio?

It sounds to me as though it's over- compressing, either naturally because of too much gain, or the built in compressor effect.

If I knew what you were talking about, I might agree.

All I know is, I use a traditional lead. No problem. Use radio and Hisssss

Turned gain all way down on transmitter, then on amp, then turned gain on amp up enough to sound and the hiss was there!

Is there a minimum range your supposed to work from. I'm around 4-5 meters away and it's still hissing.
Tried re routing all leads, turned all other gear off. No effect.

Does moving the receiver unit away from the amp help

No. I tried that.
Just had it all checked as well by Thoman in Germany.

I have the T-Bone as well as the Samson and don't suffer any such problems. Other than what I have suggested with the compression, I can't think why it should hiss, other than that it's faulty.

Hi,

Is there an audio level preset on the transmitter, there is on the samson,
if this is set too low it can cause under modulation which will give a hiss
to the sound.

Hi Amanda,
No, not that I can see. Near the aerial there is an Off-Mute-ON switch.

Near the Jack plug is a gain control, set at Zero. on the base is the channel select, from 1-16.

On the receiver are the channel selection switches at the front. On the rear Line-Mic set to line. and a squelch set at off.

Thats the lot.

Cable out, power in.
