Selmer Truvoice Amps

Postby AndyKC » 16 Aug 2011, 11:26

Hi all, recently found an old red and white Selmer Stadium, which I am led to believe was the amp everyone who was anyone played until Vox knocked them off the plinth (it's my understanbding that the Shads used them prior to getting their A.C.15s?). It's in remarkable shape except for a couple of missing bits and bobs. There's some missing gold-tone metal piping that goes around the waistline of the cabinet, and a couple of plastic Vs that attach to the speaker baffle. I'd like to source replacements for all that if possible; any of you fine people know where I might look? Thanks in advance!

You can get gold-piping from suppliers of Vox spares (Northcoast Music, for instance).

Would a cannibalised Citroen badge approximate the logo?

What's the relevance of the Citroen badge Jim ?

You could re-create the late-fifties style of Selmer grille badge from a small Citroen badge, Ecca.

Selmer Stadium amp grille: http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/gallery/gallery3/gallery4/cat29.html

Citroen badge: http://www.windowregulatorman.co.uk/citroen%20badge.gif

You'd have to do a little bit of cutting (and turn the elements upside down) - but just imagine trying to get hold of the original Selmer badge!

I'd thought about the Vox gold piping thing until I actually had the amp in my possession. The routed groove is too wide and deep for plastic piping as what was used actually is a gold-toned metal trim. I have the stuff on the upper routing, so I have a reference point, but plastic tubing ain't gonna fly. Cute idea about the Citroen badge; I was just in France too, shoulda nicked one off an old 2CV. 8-)
