I don't know 'cos I wasn't there but ...... my ears suggest to me that a lot of the characteristic recorded Rostill sounds were made with the Burns. Certainly it's easy to reproduce them now on a Burns, picking the way JR did on the neck side of the toast rack, but really not on a J-bass. That said, no question that the Jazz was JR's favourite instrument, as I expect Rob B's updated "Funny Old World" will confirm.
