with the moonlight shadows(peterborough) i found I had plenty to carry without syndrums.
but for the tunes on which they were used i have ds3 and ds7 drum synths, does the job and smaller
i used them powered but you could risk them on battery alone

In the eighties I bought a little battery powered box about the size of a stomp box that did the syn drums sound, you just clipped it to one of the toms and set the sensitivity when you needed it and hitting the drum would trigger it. I think I still have it, called a Drum Sync if I remember correctly.
