I read somewhere that he was the first drummer to play songs instead of just beats.

Last night's show was 'interesting'. Just seemed like filler, as the various drummers featured during the series spoke about their favourite drummers and we had a TOP 20 list! Most, if not all, of the footage was actually taken from the previous three eps.

Needless to say, in the Top Twenty of Drummers... Ringo was in at number four! So he was above Keith Moon, Billy Cobham, Ginger Baker, Louis Belson, Steve Gadd, and Neil Peart to name but a few. Yeah, OK. I wonder who came up with the list?

The Ringo bashing continues.

Didn't know it was a Beatles forum.

The thing is, these Top Tens (and indeed programmes) are manipulated so as to include popularist content. I mean who in their right mind can even begin to imagine that Ringo Starr can sit at number 4 in a top ten (or top twenty) and yet Phil Collins and Barrymore Barlow aren't even placed? Anyone who doesn't think that a bit of creative jiggery-pokery has taken place is fooling themselves. Ringo was an adequate to good pop drummer who fitted the band. Beyond that, nothing. And yet he can sit just three places beneath Buddy Rich. Yeah, OK. Maybe it's the Knighthood that did it?

This forum doesn't exist to knock anybody. Nobody should read about themselves (or anyone else) on this forum and be upset by it.

I don't know if Ringo will see or hear about this thread but it's not impossible. It can be read by anybody.

Please can we leave it now? Everyone has had a chance to comment.
