Question re Brians's Cymbals

Postby suspend6 » 07 Aug 2020, 12:40

After a break from drumming of some 40 years, I have recently joined a Shadows tribute band. I have been watching some of the Shadows "The Final Tour" DVD tracks, and am trying to get my cymbals into "Shadows Mode". Some of the videos show quick glimpses of Brian's Zildjian cymbals, but too hard to pick the models and sizes. Does anybody have any idea what his cymbal setup was for that show?
Cheers, Phil from Downunder

Rest easy. A more thorough look around this site has given me the answer to my cymbal question.

BTW, www.philsdrums.co.uk is no longer accessible. Is there a replacement site?

Sorry for the delay. Looks like I am not being notified of postings.

The one I know for sure is a Zildjian 18" A Crash/Ride. There are short glimpses of it on the Final Reunion DVD.

I have coupled that with a set of 14" New Beat hi hats, a 20" K Dark Ride, a 17" A Custom Crash and an 18" K Hybrid Crash. Getting a reasonable sound, but always ready to swap if I discover something closer.

The big one in front of him to his right is a 20" or 22" 'Ping' and a very important part of his sound, as he rides it a lot.
How do I know ? I saw it close up and discussed it with him when I worked in The Vibratos in 2002, leading me to buy one for my studio kit. :)

Dave, was that an "A" Ping Ride?

I can't remember whether it was an 'A' because it wasn't referred to as that, just a Ping ride, I'll ask him.:)

Many thanks for your trouble. The K has no "Ping" reference though. :D

So you actually asked Brian ? :o
