Drumport bass drum head

Postby roninnes » Thu Nov 24, 2011 5:57 pm

Has anyone seen the latest in bass drum heads from a company called drumport.
See www.drumport.co.uk

This replaces the front head and it looks really weird. The claims are interesting but there is nowhere close to me for me to see them first hand. I do not fancy a 2 hour drive to Ipswich or Colchester and wonder if anyone else has seen these.

Acoustically, there is logic behind it - the same horn principle is used for some loudspeakers, particularly public address loudspeakers, because the horn raises the efficiency of the acoustic coupling between the diaphragm (in this case the batter head) and the air.

It would be even more effective (though unwieldy) if the horn extended forward from the front of the drum and had a 22" throat which widened exponentially to, say, 5 feet or so. No need to mic it up any more!

Don't know where the rest of the band would go on stage but I would be OK
