Hi Jay - I can recommend Celestion Gold speakers. I've used them in an amplifier for Bassboogie and they sound fantastic.

Hi Jay,

Roger initially fitted blue speakers to my old AC30 bass amp and it works very well. Roger then made me an AC30 bass head and I ran this through a Vox cab with 2 by 12 Celestion Golds, that gave the old Vox sound but as the Blues are 15 watt and the Golds 50 watt this gave better definition at higher volumes. Since then Roger has added 2 more Celestion Golds, so 4 in total and with the AC30 head it will stand up to any giging amp. In my view the sound is very close to the original AC30 but with much better definition of notes at high volumes. The Golds are about the same price as the Blues. If you're after that early sound but need more volume I would suggest the Golds, 2 are fine.

Roger Newell (Wildcats and many others) uses a Peavey 350 combo with a Black Widow 15 and his sound as well as playing live on the recent Marty Wilde tour was just mind blowing, I've I think the best I've heard for 50's/60's bass sound, so Black Widows may also be an option. He used a 84 P bass.

As always if you're down this way you are very welcome to try mine or PM me.

Kind regards, Luigi

Hi Luigi
Thanks for The info on the celestion golds, certainly worth looking at.
im not sure 2 at 50watts would be powerful enough for mid sized gigs?
i am powering the speakers with a Ampeg Bass amp 380 watt at 4ohms or 500 watts at 2ohm
i have used Peavey bass gear in the past and always been very happy with the 15" Black widow speakers.
i have never tried the 12" black widows but may be worth a look.
eminence 12" basslite speakers have also been mentioned and recomended, i believe after talking to Nathan from
The Rapiers that the speakers used in his 2x12 vox cab are eminence basslite speakers fitted by geoff strachan .
so plenty of different possibilities to try, il let you know how i get on.
Regards
Jay
