PBass modifications

Postby Ade Cruse » Mon Sep 26, 2011 7:16 pm

I'm very pleased to have just been given a new Mexican Fender 50s PBass for a birthday present. It has come in Fiesta red with a gold anodised scratch plate and a maple neck. I'm thinking about changing the scratch plate to either white, mother of pearl or tortoiseshell and it doesnt have any ashtrays so i'm wondering if I might get hold of those to. Any suggestions?

Scratchplates:

Metal covers (easier to be authentic with the Precision than with the Jazz, which correctly has a large embossed "F"):

Ade, if you install a white scratchplate, your guitar will look like our bass guitarist Anna's P Bass (see photo in the "Hank Marvin" PBass thread, which should just be below this one). Of course, although such a color scheme will match your lead guitarist's Strat, if he uses one like Hank's (or Cliff's), the Shadows never used such a scheme.

A belated happy birthday. That is a great gift.

For an authentic early 60's sound, don't forget to install the foam mute under the bridge cover. Heavy duty self adhesive draught excluder works well, but you'll need to experiment with position until you get the sound right...
