Hi Jay,

I'm sure it's a Mexican 50's reissue P bass. They can be bought new for around £500 (Soundslive do a good deal) but have a gold anodised scratchplate, replace that with a tortoise shell and you have the one advertised one ebay. I have had one for sometime now and love it, even with the 'orrible flash gold scratchplate. But if you want to spend a lot more on the one used in the advert....................

Hi Luigi
It does State that it a Mex 50's re-issue with the t/shell plate added
strange realy, i would have thought a white s/plate with maple neck
t/shell with rosewood?
i dont remember seeing any shads bass player with maple & t/shell?
but i suppose it is fiesta red.

Hi Jay,

I agree with you, but I have noticed, if correct, that Alan Jones and Brian Locking have maple necks now. My own experience is that I prefer the maple, I must sadly confess, because I can see the dots better than on rosewood. I think the great attraction to the Mexican 50's reissue P bass is that it's off-the-shelf fiesta red and reasonably priced.
Having said that Jet still thunders away on a rosewood fretboard and I have never seen him with glasses !!!
