Interesting to read those Most quotes. It all makes perfect sense.

Here's Mickey Most talking about the difference between himself (with Herman's Hermits) and George Martin (with The Beatles) as producers.
"I thought with the Beatles he did the right thing, to make them more musical, but if you tried to make Herman's Hermits more musical you'd have lost the little charm they had. No-one takes their music seriously. The were fun on the radio. It's up-sunshine music and that way you could be flippant, you could do it lightheartedly.
Even in the more serious days when we had four track and then eight track machines (we started off on mono), we'd still start the session at seven in the evening and I'd have a table booked at an Italian restaurant in Romilly Street for 10.30 and I'd meet my wife there for dinner and I'd never be late. The record would be finished, mixed, boxed up, labelled, and probably on its way to America."

Wonderful! What we need in these troubled times is more up-sunshine music!
